this episode is a good example of why you never trust eyewitness testimony. because physics, psychology, and physiology are key to what humans see and perceive. i would rather trust a video camera than rely on somebody who saw something.

What you said is true.

There was also the reference that Conan is deducing that Sera is Mary's daughter. Reason being that they both share the same eyebags and when Haibara has the "eyebag" via mascara she looks similar as well.

Recall in the beginning of the episode he starts to get to the conclusion that Mary is probably Sera's mom but is interrupted.

Well, there isn't much explanation behind the whole Mary and Elena thing since they just are sisters but the whole deduction that Mary is Sera's mom and how Haibara looks similar because she has a similar face but no eye bags like the others of the family do.

also, Haibara and Ayumi were wearing mascara earlier... which doesn't fit with the 'little girls' they are today. but Conan has earlier seen Haibara in her 20's after she had to take the APTX antidote and save the DBC from that burning mountain cabin. the mascara makes Conan think of Haibara in her 20's and possibly 'Mary' as an older version as well.

so if you add everything together! a similar 'eyelash' like shape under 'Mary's' eye and Masumi and Shuu Akai's eyes, the three of their eye colors, then Masumi saying her, and her two older brothers are split up in likenesses. Akai and her look like the mom and middle bro Shuu (the shogi master, but Conan doesn't know he's an Akai just yet) looks like their dad.

add in the 'older Haibara thought'... and you get 'Mary' in an older body... and i think Conan just grasped that 'Mary' is Shuu Akai, middle bro, and Masumi's MOM!
